BKV Energy is a fresh face in the energy market in Texas. They first launched as an energy provider in 2022, but the company has been around since 2015 as a natural gas producer, primarily in Texas.
Our initial impression of BKV has been favorable. Their prices are fair and they have a good range of renewable options. But, as a new provider, there is the possibility of a few hiccups and growing pains as they become a bigger player in the industry.
Either way, we think they are here to stay and will likely keep improving. We are confident that BKV is a good option if you find a rate that works for you.
BKV Energy is a relatively new name in the energy industry in Texas, at least as far as retail providers go. The company actually started in 2015 and has been focused on energy generation, primarily natural gas.
If you live in Texas, North Texas especially you may have seen natural gas facilities in rural and urban areas alike. That's because of a geological formation called the Barnett Shale. Barnett Shale is estimated to be one of the largest natural gas reserves on hte planet. BKV is the largest natufal gas producer in the Barnet Shale area.
After becoming one the largest producers of natural gas BKV entered the retail energy market in 2022 is a retail electricity provider in Texas.

Lights work! That's exactly what we want. Use Energy Oger who changed us to the BKV plan. Have automatic payment plan, so effort was seamless for us.
Electricity is fine, but their payment processing is extremely slow. If you don’t give them access to your bank account and send payment via BillPay well in advance, it takes them weeks to process and in the interim you get lots of notes indicating your payment is past due. Needs more connectivity with banks and hopefully they are working on that.
This company offers good rates but their billing process every month is a nightmare!!! I was supposed to be on auto pay and have issues with them EVERY month!!!! Not sure if it's worth it...
Highest electric bills ever! Don't understand how Fixed rate plan is a different amount every month. Definitely shopping around for new provider.

One of the Worst electric company I’ve ever had, for those saying they are saving so much must be lying. My bill has never been so high in my life and my rates have never changed according to bkv, my last provider had the same rates and my bill was way less. How can I have the same usage and being charged double almost triple of what my bills are supposed to be.
I’ve had no hiccups since rolling over to BKV Energy. Cost has been transparent and I feel that I am getting the best price!

People who are in customer service living in USA should have English speaking skills! Otherwise stay in the country you were born that doesn't speak English.
Scammers, liars and manipulators running this company. They say one thing on the contractual agreement online, then have a strange indian rep call you by phone when you are approved a week later. Once your get the bill, have questions or want to pay, it goes through what sounds like a latin scammers call center where they speak little english. No official office, or management to handle escalated calls. They never commit to any of what they claim in the contract. Chargr for things you never heard of, adding whatever they want whenever they want to the bill. Charge double what the bill should be, no grace periods so extra chargers will be added, no way to pay except online and the system fails to process payments so late fees are added. Forget making your payments the ordinary business way like; pay by phone or credit/ debt options through an agent...they ask for cash app so I knew it was some bullshiggy. I immediately reported them to the PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION for unethical practices and then they went on an email apology tour and it's been month's and they continue sending me emails and just asked for a review. WELL HERE IT IS, SO STOP HARASSING ME!

What a crock. Worst mistake I've made by far in 23 years at our house. Just switched over 2 months ago and my bill has now doubled. Talking to CS is like talking to a brick wall, they blame local provider and local provider blames the billing company. So FRUSTRATED and no where to go but pay the HIGH $$$ COSTS! Highly not recommended to use this company.
Could not register online, not sure who's fault but they didn't recognize my email address and didn't have the correct billing address.

I believe the sign-up went well. I take care of my mother-in-law's retail electric power contracts. I will be watching to see how the rates (which should be fixed on the energy portion) will work out. I will be reviewing the bills in detail. I have no loyalty to REPs. I always use the Texas run "Power-to-Choose" to find a low "fixed" price contract. I never stay with the same REP. I also do not fall for REPs that advertised "free" weekends or whatever. All they are doing is charging the unknowing customer higher rates to compensate for the "free" days. There is no free ride in the retail electric business.

Not courteous. We had to call them to confirm the switch. When we requested another email confirming the switch she was very curt and said you would get one when the service starts. Not friendly. Unlike the person who signed us up who was Fidel. I hope that the service is better 🙏
Your service sometime are rude
There were so many technical glitches during the sign up process. At first I tried several times over several hours on the website and then I decided to call and after a long wait time I gave customer support all my info again only to find out they're receiving the same error. They told me to try again later which never worked. I had to figure out that you need to turn off auto pay during sign up and then re-enable it after you get your account opened. They activated service 1 day after the day I had selected. Other than that everything seems so far so good and they had the best prices at the time I was looking.
My bill has more than doubled in only 6 months despite nothing changing on my end. It was cheap the first month or two and then went up and up and up. At this point, I'm pretty sure they are falsely reporting my energy consumption. According to this company, my little 1 bedroom apartment consumes more electricity than a 2,000 sq foot home.
Your service is very good, prices are lower than others. I highly recommend it.

Electric power provider sent me this "It's been a few days since you signed up and we'd like to know how we're doing" ask me to leave review. This is getting out of hand and very annoying, one star may curb their enthusiasm.
Just in the switch over phase BUT, I have to say it has been a pleasure switching to BKV. I had looked a several other companies, with one being so annoying that I went looking. BKV offers good prices and the best sign up ever. Then they tell you that you can download all the information for your new account, tell you they are mailing it also, actually do mail it, and then check back to make sure you are happy. Looking forward to BKV Energy.

Customer service is usually polite but it takes them forever to do anything, probably because of how clunky this company's processes are. They also are very slow to post payments and will change the PO box where to send payments without warning or prior notification. I would not get service through them; they are a big pain to deal with.
Tried to signup online last Thursday and could not get it to work. It said anything with a * need to be populated. They all were populated. I then used the 855 number and a representative tried and said there was a problem with their system and they would call me back in 2 hours......crickets. I then yesterday submitted an email to support on the website, as of today...crickets. Do i need to move on?

Just initiated fixed-term contract. Change over was straightforward and seamless. Fixed $ / kWh rate was lower than most competition and didn't include a base charge. Customer service responsive and helpful for startup.
This is an early review since I only recently switched my electric service to BKV Energy but so far I'm well pleased. The switchover went smoothly and my new service began on the date I had hoped it would. The application process also went well and BKV has nice folks that can answer any questions you have and help you out if needed just by messaging them on their Facebook site. My first bill has been made available online and it sounds reasonable.
Just signed up last week so it’s hard to tell details about BKV. Signing up was easy and fast. They did everything to cancel my previous provider. Their website is very generic. Can’t track day to day usage so it’s difficult to estimate monthly usage. Previous provider was much more informational. When signing up can only use credit card for autopay. Wish ACH payment was available. Previous providers rates were too high. We’ll see how billing is when first one is received. It’s now been 3 months and the bills are half of what they would have been with my other provider. No hidden costs!! Once first bill was due, found out you can change your autopay preference to ACH option. Just doesn’t offer it when signing up. Work is also being done to the website to improve the customer information. BKV was definitely the right choice!!!

A 4-star rating is given to those that provide a mix of energy sources, with more than 50% coming from renewable sources. Entities with renewable energy options exceeding the state average of 31.1% receive a 3-star rating, while those offering less than 31.1% renewable options are rated with 2 stars. Lastly, a 1-star rating is assigned to those with no renewable energy options, indicating a lack of commitment to sustainable energy practices.
PUC Rating:
The Public Utility Commission publishes a rating for each provider based on the number of formal complaints filed against the provider in comparison to how many customers they have.
For example, a provider with 10 formal complaints out of 10,000 customers would have a 1-star rating whereas a provider with 10 complaints and 1,000,000 customers would have a 5-star rating.
