TLDR; 10 out of 10 recommend. Shopped on Powertochoose and Southern Federal kept coming in with the lowest rates around. I checked out their website and decided to give them a call. The rep I spoke to was very kind and helpful and answered all of my questions. Signed on for the first year, and this will be my second renewal with them. Every time I call I get someone who sounds like they actually enjoy their job and want to help me. Can’t say the same for most other company’s customer service. This was really important when Uri came by and caused havoc on the grids. I was fortunate that Southern Federal gave me fixed rates and didn’t have to worry. There were some mixups in my account, and they had it resolved immediately. Just can’t beat it. Shoutout to Zech and Kenna!

Started out well with this company now I dont know what's going on. Started with a 6-month contract, went well. When it was time to renew the 6 month contract disappeared. As in no longer an option.The only options were 12, 24, 36 and 48. The rep I spoke with told me they only provide options for 12 months and greater. I was upset but it didn't bother me as I had planned to stay at my place longer so I signed a 12month contract. Now its time to renew again; logged in. No 12 month option. Only 24, 36 and 48. In addition, I signed my lease for another year and then I'm moving. Is this a ploy electric companies use in Texas? You sign a 12 then they remove it and force you to sign a 24 for renewal and so on. I'm confused. I'm waiting for them to respond but I might just switch companies.
Just signed up . It was a wonderful experience. Brittaney set the account up. A little later I called them back and the next customer service representative was just as wonderful. Great price and very little complaint history.
I got Southern Federal and the main issue is of them bombing my email inbox with their expiration/renewal notice. For this kind of notification, 3 times is enough but I got 17 emails since May 30 about the renewal service. My contract expires on July 30. However, I have to raise the score a little bit because their support is openly helpful during my renewal process and they explained additional information like service address change, moving, etc.
Call for a rate quote, I could not find a cheaper rate on-line. Every kWh counts in the Texas heat.

She was so patient with me and did not see me as a client to quickly sign up.. she took her time explaining the plan and the fees and got me approved in mins! Enrolled at 2:20pm. Work order was stuck for no reason since deposit was paid immediately upon enrolling. Waited the typical 2-4 hours. No power. Called CS, agent stated the order was sent. Called CEnterPoint, no order received. Called CS again, second agent Jennifer stated it was on hold and that she pushed it through. Called CP and they stated they hadn’t received it but could be because Jennifer just pushed it through. All the food on the fridge will most likely go to waste at least in the freezer. Company is closed. No one available to submit Emergency Work order for a move in. Terrible initial experience. Please refund my deposit.

Just signed up and paid a $300 deposit a few days ago and now we have no electricity and have to wait until their office opens in the morning, my work and my kids school and the refrigerator food is going to suffer due this outage. It's time to get back my money and cancel this horrible service. Will find some other company.

I just now signed up with Southern Federal so I cannot speak as to whether the company stands behind their contract. I obviously believe they will or I wouldn't have signed up. However, I can tell about their customer service chat representative, Denise Vasquez. She was so helpful and patient that I have high expectations for this company. My account has always been set up on autopay. Apparently something happened and they took off my autopay. They didn’t send me any email or any notification. They just shut my power off. I have never missed a payment in 30 years.

They will cancel your enrollment without reasons. Keep sending email asking you to call them, but no one answer the phone after our many call attempts. Not professional and pls be aware!

Signed up for a very short 3 month variable rate plan and payed 5 cents /kw plus tdu Then next months rate is 13 cents kw plus tdu, more than double the price, this price is also outside of their price guide listed of expected changes, they are so greedy they changed prices mid month to get an extra .005. don't sign up with them you will be disappointed

Great Customer Service!
Horrible service. They turned off power one day after due date, received disconnect notice in mail after disconnection. We paid full amount of bill hours before power was disconnected, and they still disconnected power after the payment was made. Crystal, SFP representative, told me even with a payment being made if you’re late by a day they will disconnect your service and charge you all kinds of disconnect and reconnect fees. Customer service is very rude and won’t allow you to finish a question before cutting you off and putting you on hold to not have to respond or listen to you. I’ve never heard of a company disconnecting your service after one day of being late. I now have 3 kids under 4 without power for possibly 24 hours until a reconnection notice can be sent!

The service is great, but they have no way of separating bills and due dates if you have more than one location on your account. I had two residences that I was using this provider for, but they merged bills and dates on the site, causing me not to know when payments were due. However, they did waive late fees while we sorted it out. It would also be more convenient if they had an app, but regardless, we have never had any real issues with our electricity service with SoFed.

I was out of the country and received an email bill that claimed the due date was April 10. They turned off my power on March 24, so the 3 people working from home had zero power! No warning email, nothing! Received a disconnect notice today (25) after the fact. Not even close to the due date on the bill! Will NEVER sign up with theses people again. I have excellent credit.

Zoe did an excellent job of explaining my options and signing me up for our new electricity plan. She was very patient and is a great representative of Southern Federal.
Their website is outdated so whenever you see your account status online in your account as 'active' one day, the next day they will automatically disconnect your service without updating your status to 'pending disconnect'. And their excuse is to say "we sent the bill in the mail". So in sense, you will have to rely on the bill in the mail. Plus, the will overcharge you and automatically schedule you for autopay when you did not authorize. Judging by previous reviews, it seems like I am not alone.

First I would like to say that I have called twice first time was with Maryann and the 2nd time with Zoe . Both of these ladies was wonderful to work with. I know that Customer Service is a hard job , But I want to say both of these ladies are plus 10 in my book. They should be given a raise for a job well done. Zoe found me a promotion that wasn’t on Power to Choose. She saved me 40% off of my current bill. It was super quick and easy to sign up.
I have used southern federal power at two of my properties for years. They turned off the power claiming we moved out. Called to figure out what was going on. We were told that the problem was being fixed but, we wouldn’t have power for a couple days due to the holiday. We called center point and we’re told the power would be automatically turned on as soon as the request was put in from our energy provider because we have a smart meter. So here we are with out power until southern federal decides to do their job.
Continuous inaccuracy on their billing. It’s not hard folks we have smart meters now.
Save yourself a headache and money by avoiding this company. They love to send out random disconnection notices even if you pay on time. Customer service representatives have all been grumpy and rude.
So far, my experience has been positive. I was hesitant about changing provider after my plan expired. However, it was seamless. Their prices are accessible, and haven't had an issue, question or challenge that has required attention.

Not recommended at all. Worst company to deal with. Charges are way too high. Outrageous. Its like mafia. They tell us not to use too much electricity and charges us $350-450 for 4 bedroom house. What is this? They think they can take high bills but don’t use electricity either. We kept it under 78 temperature from 11pm to 8pm for AC in a day it feels way too hot till 8pm and we don’t even use washer or dryer during that time but still paying so much. $350 this is ridiculous

My family has been with southern federal since 2019 and they have been an amazing power company to have with great people working for them. I highly recommend them to everyone!

Not only was she informative and insightful, but she helped me to pick out the best plan for my household and helped me to save me as much money as possible! Southern Federal made renewing reasonably easy, after a short hold, Heather helped me get the plan I wanted. One caution, the renewal options presented to me online were not the cheapest option, there was a cheaper plan available on Powertochoose, always double-check there. While there were other companies with slightly cheaper options, it' wasn't worth the hassle of setting up a new account elsewhere, plus I got a renewal credit.
After a challenging back n forth with Shell Energy ending up with frustration, I called up Southern Federal Power for our energy connection. Discussion with customer service person was so easy and everything got completed so quickly. After application was submitted over call, we got the energy connection in just 3 hours. Great experience with Southern Federal!

For example, Provider A has the 3rd lowest-priced plan, while Provider B has the 45th lowest-priced plan out of 46 providers who submitted plans to PUC. Provider A will have a rating of 5, while Provider B will have a rating of 1.
Customer Service:
We scrape online reviews from Google, Yelp, BBB, and Trust Pilot to determine what customers are saying about the provider. The rating reflects the aggregate of all online reviews.
Renewable Options:
The rating system is based on the availability of renewable energy options. A 5-star rating is awarded to entities that offer a fully renewable option, signifying 100% renewable energy usage. A 4-star rating is given to those that provide a mix of energy sources, with more than 50% coming from renewable sources. Entities with renewable energy options exceeding the state average of 31.1% receive a 3-star rating, while those offering less than 31.1% renewable options are rated with 2 stars. Lastly, a 1-star rating is assigned to those with no renewable energy options, indicating a lack of commitment to sustainable energy practices.
PUC Rating:
The Public Utility Commission publishes a rating for each provider based on the number of formal complaints filed against the provider in comparison to how many customers they have.
For example, a provider with 10 formal complaints out of 10,000 customers would have a 1-star rating whereas a provider with 10 complaints and 1,000,000 customers would have a 5-star rating.
