They have upgraded services by providing paper bills (for those of us that like paper) and automated payment. Both improvements. No complaints, never had to call customer service, which is a positive.
I have been with New Power several years and I am satisfied. My bills are larger than I like in the summer, but I use more electricity in the summer months.

I have been told my power would be turned on any minute so many times just to be let down over and over. It has been freezing at my house and nothings but broken promises has been done by your company. I am exhausted and not looking forward to dealing with your company for the next 36 months.

The bill is low compared to other companies. But they charged late fees even you just paid one day late. Customer service are just like machine and they cannot credit it for me.
I became a customer with New Power Texas on January 19th 2022 at 10:50 am; everything was going smoothly until they emailed me the new customer documents and I noticed an error in the service activation date. I immediately called back to correct the date and was forwarded on to the customer care team as expected. Within a few minutes, an automated voice told me I was first in line to speak to a representative. Fast forward two hours, I was still in the queue with the same repeating message that I was first in line to be answered. I finally hung up and wrote the customer care team an email stating why I was trying to contact them, no response. After debating, I decided to cancel the service. If I can't get a hold of them on the first day of a 12 month contract, this is not the company who I want to deal with for the next year. I understand that not all companies can be reached immediately, but this is an electric company not the DMV. I called back the only number listed on their website, and was now transferred to their cancelation department. Same story, I was told I was next in line to speak to a representative, then 60 minutes of the same repeating message. I emailed the company stating that I wanted to cancel my service and even mailed a physical letter (postmarked 1/19/2022) stating I no longer wanted to be a customer. As written in their terms of service, I have 3 federal business days to cancel my agreement without penalty and that is my intent. It was not my intention to write a negative review, but I cannot get a hold of anyone to assist me with canceling my contract which is all I want. It seems this company has no problem with signing you up as a customer, but as soon as you need assistance with your account, they're no where to be found. I just want confirmation that my contract was cancelled.

New Power TX is the ABSOLUTE worst electric company!!! Please read: I've been living in Texas my entire life and I've been in Austin for the last 8 years. I have dealt with other electric companies before dealing with New Power TX and I've been using new power texas going on 2 years now. I renewed my contract on the exact same plan, but when I received my first bill, I noticed the rate doubled. I did not change my plan when I renewed the contract! When I contacted customer service, no one on the first line could help me. When I finally got ahold of someone at the company to fix it, they put me on a different, more affordable plan (which started in a different month from my rental agreement) and told me I had to pay for (if/when) an early termination fee when my lease ends.. Side note: if you can't provide them with proof that you are moving to a new address under YOUR name, then you are still subject to the termination fee (i.e. back home with parents or with a roommate is not enough proof per David, one of the New Power "managers"). On other instances, when paying your bills, New power TX is quick to hit you with hidden late fees (even if you are set up on autopay). When you call the company to have an issue with your bill fixed/explained, they will send you through Customer support 1, followed by a supervisor, and then finally a manager who all will tell you the same thing "[insert blurb about their policies and how their hands are tied]". Meanwhile, as you continually listen to their policies and how the individuals on the line can't assist you, you quickly realize their policies (1) strive to ignore consumer needs/situations, (2) put consumers in financial chokeholds by inducing all sorts of additional hidden fees all while (3) protecting their profits at their leisure. DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY WITH YOUR INFORMATION!! I am one that does not normally write reviews, however, I feel it is my due diligence to alert the general consumer of the atrocities this company is committing on a monthly/yearly basis. For anyone reading this, it is with utmost and extreme sympathy that I write this review. If you are in the Pflugerville/Austin surrounding areas, I would highly highly HIGHLY avoid New Power TX at all costs. They will rip you off the first chance they get!! Protect your peace. New Power TX is the ABSOLUTE worst electric company!!!

Very worst customer care service center.For a service provider switch they simply cancelled enrollment after an approval without proper call /notification and agent is keep on requesting new new docs.
Awful company. They steal your money. Their customer care service is awful. Khadijah specifically is ZERO help. Social team is even worse. They stole over 300 dollars to me that was in my reserve account for another bill. They do not care. So many other options for energy bills make sure to go to them! UPDATE: STILL AWFUL 5/22
My experience has been very negative. I recommend looking elsewhere. I know I wish I did. There are a lot of fake positive reviews on here I noticed. Just look how many people give thumbs up on the negative reviews! Update: I did contact and this is the response I received 👎
So I set up my account for auto pay. The first bill was not payed for some reason. They shut off the power and it is 100 degrees and I have a new born. I called and wIted 2 hours to speak to someone and they lied to me saying they sent an order to reconnect. I called oncore and the said they have no order to reconnect. So now on hold again for over an hour. Criminal. They should all be in jail.
Over hour wait on the phone get customer service, and then I’m usually hung up on. They do not respond to emails either.
My contract with NewpowerTX to be expired on 07/18/23. They changed the contract expiration date to 08/08/23 on their site without contacting me to get my permission a few days before 07/18/23. It is totally illegal practice! I called their customer service line and waited for 1 hour 40 minutes, then they hang up my phone. Worst electricity company that I have ever experienced! Will never use their service again. Do NOT recommend it to anyone! Update: I finally got hold of their customer service person. She told me NewpowerTX has the right to extend the contract before the expiration date without the authorization from the customer, and now they are going to charge me early termination fee, because I switched my electricity on the expiration date (07/18/2022) on the contract I signed , not on the date what NewpowerTX single sidedly extended without my knowledge. This is most bazar thing I have ever heard!
You can never reach them via phone. Left a phone call back number “don’t lose you place get a call back”. They never call back.
Unbelievably hard to get ahold of. We were without power for days and Centerpoint kept pointing fingers at this provider, who would not pick up the phone . Even if they have the lowest rates at the time - not worth getting into a contract.
I really really wanted to like this company. Just started with this company. Have a contract in place and was overbilled first month. Flat rate plan up to 2000kwh. Then 15.5 cents per kwh over. I used 1970kwh on the bill. They then charged me 303kwh over at 15.5 cents. Sent in several emails with zero response. Called talked to on rep, then another super isor who both could not explain the bill. Asked for a manager above supervisor was told they would get back to me within 48 hours. 107 hours later still nothing. This is not just bad customer service it's a breach of contract Would be fantastic if they would.just communicate with me

If only ZERO STARS were possible. We switched because of the crazy good rate…too bad we never got to experience it because they left us without light for 2 days and counting! My two daughters, my husband, and myself have been without electricity and we can’t get a hold of anyone through email, Facebook, or phone! After 3 hours of waiting on the phone they transferred their phone lines because they closed and we never got to speak to them. Here’s to day 3! We are switching to TXU who already answered right away and is helping us get set up! I’d rather pay a little more for better customer service and so that I know we’re guaranteed light in our home for the sake of my daughters. STAY AWAY FROM THESE SCAMMERS.
This company is a scam. I signed up for a fixed rate of 12.9¢ a kWh and I was gone for July. My usage for July was 50 kWh and my bill is over $250. I cannot get a hold of anyone, their number either hangs up on you or the mailbox is full and will not accept messages. Do not fall for this scam, shop elsewhere.
I paid a deposit to have services turned on. Order was cancelled after being approved. It's been over a week and still cant receive my deposit back. Impossible to get in in contact through email that they provide. I've called and everytime am on the line for over an hour. Last call I was told it would be back in my account by Aug. 3rd and still nothing. Attempted to contact again today with no luck..Goodbye 250 bucks!!!
I have not liked this company since I been with them and I cannot wait to get out of this contract. Their customer service is horrible. They never answer the phone unless you hold for at least an hour. I sent multiple messages through their online portal asking for a call back and they have refused to call me back. This company does not care about their customers. And I have gotten multiple questionable bills which I have not been able to contest because I can never get in touch with the higher-ups. BEWARE!
DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR MONEY! I submitted my application, paid my deposit. Day of connection I had an appt for new appliances to be installed. When I called (obviously overseas and hold times are in HOURS) for an estimated time frame for connection I was informed they were not connecting services despite being approved and it's been 3 weeks after they said they would return my deposit. Now they want me to provide proof that I have never had their service before saying they won't send my deposit back saying I owe them money. I asked for the invoice showing I owe money as I had never heard of this company before and they sent me a bill for a different company from their "new texas power" email. Really not sure how any of this is legal, based on other reviews maybe it's time to get the local media stations involved!
I signed up for their 36 month fixed price plan. When the bill came they had overcharged me by about $50. The bill had no resemblance to the electricity facts label that I had used to select them. The base charge was wrong and the billing tiers were wrong. I immediately tried to contact them to let them know the error. I sent 2 emails. No response. I tried calling in and got a message saying long wait times if I want they will call me back and I won't lose my place in line. No call back. I went through their website and used a customer service request form and got an automated email reply that they would respond in one business day. No response. I called back in and waited on hold for an hour and forty minutes until they decided to answer and immediately hang up. I've since filed a complaint with the Public Utility Commission of Texas. Hopefully this review saves somebody the aggravation and complete waste of time and money I've endured.

WORST ELECTRICITY PROVIDER. DO NOT GET NPT. I had this company for 2 years with an apartment I was living in and moved out of 2 months ago. Tell me why on Friday September 23, I AM STILL GETTING $300+ BILLS FOR SAID APARTMENT? And what do you know? They are closed on weekends so I have to WAIT to call them. Somehow someway, I was able to get ahold of them when I called them today and was on hold for 4 HOURS. I ask them to explain to me, why I am still getting bills if I moved out 2 months ago, I tell them I cancelled my service 2 MONTHS AGO. You know what this man tells me? "Your REQUEST to be cancelled from our service was DENIED without reason." I almost lost it on them, they are lucky I was at work when I made the call. DO NOT GET THIS COMPANY UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE PAYING WHEN YOU ARE OUT OF THEIR CONTRACT AND 2 MONTHS MOVED OUT OF THE LOCATION THEY ARE CHARGING YOU FOR. IF I COULD GIVE NEGATIVE A MILLION STARS I WOULD.
NEGATIVE STARS DON'T USE THIS COMPANY! I don't leave reviews but I want to warn everyone. Our family was going to enroll with them because online it was appealing to switch seeing as how our current bills were in the 600's with our previous electricity provider but then after trying to sign up with New Power I noticed on the EFL that the price per KW went up 7 extra cents. So I called 5 times to cancel and emailed the customer care after enrollment because it was not what I signed up for and they made it impossible to cancel. Read the reviews every bad review is factual.
Don't want to write a review but this is necessary for anyone shopping online and falling for their "low rate" ads. I signed up for a 24 months fixed rate with base charge $180 for the first 2000kwh. Deposited $225. Can anyone make sense of my first bill? $549 for 2400kwh. How can 13.3 cent per kWh average sum up to that amount??? And yes, it was for the first two weeks. I called and talked to two rep. Both of them probably worked remotely from India and they mentioned your bill was pro-rated ( UP) . Can't explain why they prorated it up though. I will have to call PUC to report this shady practice.
You can NOT get ahold of anyone at this company. No one can speak English when you do get ahold of someone after sitting on hold for HOURS. They inaccurately bill you for KWH you did not in fact use and will expect you to pay for the services with no explanation as to why. I signed up for the up to 200kwh plan at a set 238/month, they over charged me by 500 kWh at 15 cents a KWH. Others In these reviews have reported the same findings... DONT GET WRAPPED UP WITH THIS COMPANY!
If you use more than 2000 kwh hours a month maybe this company will do. But if your bill gets lower than $238 at times during cooler weather do not use this company because that is the minimum charge. Or atleast be careful on which plan you choose.
Don't sign up with NPT. If you need to call customer support, you will get an agent and then you will get disconnected. It happened twice. What a huge regret I have for signing up with them! Their portal won't even take my payment. Update: Customer support agent did call back 30 minutes later and I was finally able to submit a payment.
Predatory Sales Tactics. Horrible Customer Service. At time of renewal, the provider, both on their site and if you call an agent, will recommend a plan "based on the average of your past energy usage." Before renewal, my bill was around $110/month in the summer in my 650sq ft apartment. After renewal, it was $248 because of a $234 base fee. The base fee was never disclosed to me and I had to speak with a supervisor to even discover the fee existed. I was offered an unfavorable deferment plan with no other recourse. As a struggling college student, I just waved goodbye to at least $120 for food this month. New Power Texas is preying upon Houstonians. Update: I received my final bill. The math provided on it does not equate the final amount provided. Further, the final amount I owe is about $150 more than the amount I was told by a supervisor when asked how much my final bill would be. This has been a horrible experience and I would recommend to all to stay away from this company.
Fixed price??? Lie and deception. They use words we trust but what they mean is "fixed purchase". This theft of public trust and their pocket books. They designed their sign up package to hit you at end. Truly disturbing to watch people being robbed in bright day light. And where is our state government to protect us?! Short and sweet: - Contract ended, I went with a new provider. - They kept telling me I'm still under contract, we argued back and forth, so I provided screen shots of the agreement. They conceded. - They tried to spin circles instead of returning my deposit (which I think this was all about - I requested my refund). - Got an email warning several days later for switching providers under contract, even though we agreed I wasn't under contract anymore. - Worst provider I've ever dealt with. Completely incompetent.

I decided to switch from TXU to this company because of the lower prices, and they were supposed to work with our current electric company so our power would not get disconnected, but just transferred. WHICH DID NOT HAPPEN. WE ARE NOW WITHOUT POWER. We were told our electric service would swap over on 10/3. Today is 10/3, and our power has now been turned off. Called New Power Texas’s customer service, and they wanted to charge us $15 flipping extra dollars to turn the power on… Why in the world would we have to pay this company an extra charge for something they did not honor…. During our customer service call to New Power Texas, our phones got disconnected. When I went to reconnect, I sat on hold for 45 + mins. Decided to call from another cell phone only to be answered by New Power Texas’ voicemail service stating, “You have reached us outside of our business hours. Please leave a voicemail, and we will get back to you within 1-2 business days.” Great way to start out a new relationship with a customer…. ABSOLUTELY WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED!! Do not work with this company.

I was supposed to have my electricity turned on by 10/3 at the latest and now this worthless company is telling me the soonest they can turn it on will be 10/7. That’s FOUR DAYS PAST THE DATE THIS WORTHLESS COMPANY ORIGINALLY STATED IN THEIR OWN WELCOME LETTER. I thought I was getting a deal with signing up with this plan but I have never paid so much for electricity in my life! They penalize you for using less electric, so when I fall below 1000kwh my bills are almost $200 for a 1 bedroom 1 bathroom apartment! This is absolutely insane. The last 3 electric companies i had never got close to this. Glad I'm moving to escape thos predatory company. RUN AWAY!

Literally the worst utility company I’ve ever dealt with. DO NOT ENROLL with them. They are scammers! I’ve been charged wrong with them, I tried to call them 3 times to let them know my meter was out no one ever gave me a call back, the call center is full of ppl who do not speak English well, and now they are trying to charge me for last month bill twice!
HORRIBLE COMPANY if you have solar panels! I've been working with them for months and my issue has yet to addressed. Every month there has been a discrepancy with the number of kwh exported from my solar panels to their system. I've called several times to get this resolved. Provided proof and that still isn't enough. Every month my bill continues to rise. The representatives are far from helpful. Can't speak to anyone to address the issue. So frustrating! and I will be canceling my services.
A joke! This company #1. Did not charge the rate I had signed up for. #2. This company sent me a bill when I already paid my final bill! Pay attention to their billing. I was no longer with them and still received a bill.
UDATE: After several phone calls, emails & much time spent, New Power found our payment, credited our account & removed the late charge. Giving them benefit of doubt it won't happen again. ORIGINAL POST: Bill paid & processed on date due, (28th). Emailed proof of pmt & yet 5 days after processing the pmt. they are still threatening to discontinue service. Never have we been late with a payment. Get it together & I will revisit my review.

so hard to get a refund after you double pay. Can I get my refund to my originating mode of payment please?? Its a horrible company. I paid bills from something about 150-200 or more for 623sqft 1 bed 1 bath apartment. Now when I need a refund I need to confirm if I live in trailer, house or apartment and info does not match like seriously. Been paying over a year no one asked now suddenly info does not match....My refund please!!!!

I’m so disappointed in New Power TEXAS I received Help through TEXAS Utility Help the money that was sent to N Power for my Electric Bill was not used properly. My bills should have been paid in full every month instead of partial payments I’m not understanding!!
Don’t send me emails complaining that the sun doesn’t shine at night or that the wind isn’t blowing. Invest in nuclear energy like you should have done 40 years ago! You would have saved money, the environment, and millions of lives.

Had this company for a bout a year. Haven’t really has a lot of problems per se but I made a payment yesterday and the system said it took the payment but the balance never reflected nor my bank account. I called customer service to confirm the payment immediately they said they don’t see it. So I asked to make the payment again with them over the phone and the rep says he didn’t want to process a second payment and to wait until tomorrow or Monday and check the system. So this morning I log in and now my bill is even higher I’m assuming late fees for a payment not posting. I call them first thing 8:03 because the hours of operation are Monday-Friday open at 8. It’s now 8:37 and the automated system is still telling me I’m calling after hours When you’re clearly open for business.
So frustrated. How do we get in touch to re-register our new account if we never received our new account number and your phone lines are down
Had this company for a few years and everything was fine until this new "major system upgrade" forcing me to make a new account. Now a month later, I still haven't received an invoice and can no longer see any usage history. Their customer support is only open M-F during work hours. I work 8 to 5 so taking what few breaks I get to stay on hold with a power company is deflating. I literally haven't received a bill in almost 6 weeks, so I don't even know how much money I need to budget for; I'm sure I'll get his with a bill that I have 2 days to pay or something. Reached out to customer support via e-mail twice now with no response. This "major system upgrade" they have been blaming it on is a disaster (or an excuse) and I suggest you go elsewhere for your electricity until they get it sorted out.

Absolutely ruined your own company with whatever update you did. Not did the autopayment scheduling mess up by charging me 3 times within a one month timespan but when trying to call to resolve, you'll wait 30 minutes on the phone or when you try to navigate the website, its so slow and some pages don't even load at all.
This is the worst company I’ve ever dealt with Thay kept charging my credit card every 10 days I thought the bills only comes once every month but not with this company. Ridiculous
I am very disappointed in New Power Texas. They used to have wonderful customer service, but have recently changed their website and customer service provider. They arbitrarily enroll you in auto-pay, will not let you remove it on the website, provide a wrong phone number to have it removed and then make you contact customer service multiple times. Definitely not the company they once were…..
Unacceptable amount of tech issues. New Power sent an email requiring customer to manually migrate their own account in a system software update. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN SEEMLESS TO THE CUSTOMERS. The links in the emails did not go to the correct pages to facilitate a manual migration. I have spent over an hour on the phone with customer service to get this complete. The account was to repopulate in an hour and a week later it had not repopulated my usage, autopay, etc. New overseas customer service is difficult to understand their English requiring many requests to repeat statements and the background noise level too much. EPIC FAIL.
Not consistent name branding, poor customer service and now they're billing double for no reason and refusing to provide explanations. Don't walk away from this company. Run.

Omg! They are never available, they outsourced the customer service to India and it’s awful…and the website is alwaysss down! So, you can hardly ever make a payment without total hell! They literally stopped everything they did to be a good company! Will not renew!

Renewable Options:
The rating system is based on the availability of renewable energy options. A 5-star rating is awarded to entities that offer a fully renewable option, signifying 100% renewable energy usage. A 4-star rating is given to those that provide a mix of energy sources, with more than 50% coming from renewable sources. Entities with renewable energy options exceeding the state average of 31.1% receive a 3-star rating, while those offering less than 31.1% renewable options are rated with 2 stars. Lastly, a 1-star rating is assigned to those with no renewable energy options, indicating a lack of commitment to sustainable energy practices.
PUC Rating:
The Public Utility Commission publishes a rating for each provider based on the number of formal complaints filed against the provider in comparison to how many customers they have.
For example, a provider with 10 formal complaints out of 10,000 customers would have a 1-star rating whereas a provider with 10 complaints and 1,000,000 customers would have a 5-star rating.
