**Energy Texas has ceased supplying rates and plans to the PUCT, indicating that they may be ceasing operations***
Energy Texas is an energy provider in Texas that has been servicing customers since late 2020. When they first launched their rates were very competitive. But, since late 2023 the company's rates and plans have increased price drastically.
This practice is common for new energy providers. Typically when an energy provider launches they offer very competitive rates to build an income stream and a book of business. Then as their customer count grows they become less aggressive with their pricing.
We have noticed some complaints about their customer support being overseas. This can be frustrating but it's not clear if this is a permanent solution or just a place for them to dump calls when they are overloaded or after hours.
Energy Texas is an electricity provider that registered with the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) in 2020. You can find their PUCT registration here.
Energy Texas is headquartered in Houston, Texas under the name Declaration Energy LLC, but they have a DBA as Energy Texas.
The service has been great especially with these Texas heatwaves. I think the pricing is fair, it's just unfortunate that in order to stay cool, we need AC! :)
So far so good.
Energy Texas has good pricing on electricity and they offer rewards. You earn points for paperless billing, paying on time and using autopay. I was able to get a $50 gift card after just 10 months. I have not had any problems with this company, and I recommend them to my friends and people on social media who are looking for lower electricity rates.
Energy Texas has best rates compared to other electricity providers. Have never faced any issues with their service. 10/10 recommend their service.
Kilowatt prices are high everywhere right now, but they seem to have good rates,
I have tried many companies but ENERGY TEXAS is the real deal trust me you won't regret it.
Not real happy because as a Solar panel owner/ provider of excess power, my buy back rate is horrible. When I signed up my rate was 1to1
Best energy rate at the time of renewal. Good rewards program - no reason not to use this provider.
Well the bill went down a few dollars from July so that was nice. Would love to get more savings.
Love this energy service already got a 50 bill credit
This company cares and shows it thru low prices over a long period of time. They andi over $50 of 1 months bill for everyone you refer. They also have hints on how to save, discounts for letting energy usage during realy hot periods and so much more.
We signed a one year Solar buy back contract. 3 months into the contract Energy Texas reduced the buy back rate. They told me if I didn’t like it I could leave. I don’t want silly cowboy talk. I want to deal a company that honors their contracts.
We are very pleased so far with Energy Texas. Our monthly bills have been very pleasant. We also get rewards back for every dollar we spend. Thank you Energy Texas
Great Electric provider and incentive reward system.
Energy Ogre found Energy Texas as the lowest or best rate at the time of signup. No issues and our bill has stayed lower even with the heat we have been having.
No complaints! Great rate!
Great service and rates, just as advertised
So far so good. I would like to see more of a nuclear power in the grid.
The service was fine. Price was okay. Billing okay. But the ONLY reason I signed up was because of their Sun Jacinto solar buyback plan. Withing 2 months they changed the terms and completely ruined all benefits of the plan...taking it from the best in the area to among the worst. Thankfully they allowed 30 days to cancel all service, and I promptly did.
We’ve been using them since June 2022. We have the 36 month inflation fix plan. I’m neither over the moon nor dissatisfied with my service or bill. Im pretty neutral. It’s comparable to what I’ve always paid and expect to pay. I will consider them when this contract terms, but I will also search the free market for the best price for the longest period of time again. Full disclosure, I do have a year old house so it would be more energy efficient and my bills reflect that. Pros - nice little rewards program. I saw the other day I can get a GC or a bill credit with the points accumulated by simply paying my bill on time each month. Cons - the app never worked great for me. I always had trouble logging on and finally I deleted it. No I didn’t troubleshoot further, I just pay on the site.
Fabulous company to have as electric provider
Love it, I got my plan adjusted, they granted an extra discount and adjusted the plan that was most beneficial for me, I then changed plans and they adjusted again.
I might like your service if we still had it. YOU sold us off to another company just months after we signed on with you. No warning. No reason. I guess you don’t consider the time and effort spent comparing energy companies when deciding who to go with. To say the least, we are less than thrilled with you. You advertise that your customer service is here in the US. But that is just not true.
Hasta ahorita estiy agusto con mi servicio de luz..
Rangler Rewards are great! Have had great service so far
I signed up for a Solar program with Energy Texas and three weeks later they changed the terms of the program, much to my displeasure. When I called to speak with a rep, they were rude and condescending. Dreadful company and hideous customer service.
Awesome Energy best rates and not using fossil fuels to get my power. A win-win . Never any CS issues. Great Company!
Shortly after the contract was begun Energy Texas changed the terms of the agreement. They are now taking most of my generated power with no remuneration to me. I find this a very deceptive practice.
Horrible customer service. They offer rewards if you pay your bill on time! I did for over a year and i had $75 in rewards that they did not honor. Would never recommend them to anyone.
Terrible service
Good and reliable, 1:1 solar buyback too
Great service, easy payment methods, recording prompts are easy to follow and the voice on the recording is a total Texas accent, with Howdy and Yall spot on.
Good company very communicative and rates aren’t as high as what I hear for others living in smaller homes than mines.
I am so happy my daughter recommended Energy Texas to me when I moved recently! It is not often you feel welcomed by your electric company but that’s just what Energy Texas did! This company exudes the friendliness of the state of Texas! It has great service, helpful recommendations and awesome rewards!! Y’all I love being a part of the Energy Texas family!!
Easy billing and great customer service!
Awesome customer service and even has a rewards program. Oh and my rates destroy TXU and Reliant
They reduced the buyback rates by 50% in a 3 year fixed plan and don’t allow me to leave without paying $500. If you have solar panels don’t use this provider, they are scammers
The information is helpful and the rates are great
They are not helpful if you have a hard time paying your bill. I've also reported them to the utility commission because I switched companies and magically my usage dropped significantly. I had brought my usage to their attention which they agreed it was higher than its ever been but said the meter was reading right. I also was told since my account went into collections (after they added a $300 cancelation fee and $200 usage for a week) they wouldn't issue my Rangler Rewards. So what's the point of the rewards?
Great company and Great prices with excellent "rewards"!!!!!
I'm a fairly new customer to Energy Texas but so far, I'm grateful for the lower rates and appreciate the perks (earning rewards, referral bonuses, etc.). Great service!
Energy Texas is a very professional and customer oriented company. They are very easy to work with and very friendly and the prices are great
A wonderful company to work with.
Easy, competitive pricing, and cool rewards. All you could realistically ask for with an energy provider.
Do not use this company, they are horrible. They have the worst customer service. The rates are extremely high. They lie about what they give you. They say they give you rewards, and then they take them away. WARNING.. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!!
Great experience!
Good rates. No complaints.
Great company! We have enjoyed our experience from day one. Great customer service!
Unfortunately, I was unable to utilize the $50 credit and other points I earned, because I moved to Addison and Energy Texas told me they don't service my new apartment.
I've had a great experience with Energy Texas! They've been helpful and information. Would recommend!
I’m very happy with Energy Texas and my bills this summer the high temperatures were lower than my bill last summer due to the rate I have. t
I feel that I have saved a significant amount of money by using ENERGY TEXAS for my electricity needs. I appreciate their efforts in encouraging energy conservation during times of high electricity demand.
Changed my fixed rate without telling me. These people are Thieves!
I signed up with Energy Texas in October of last year for their solar buy-back offer. They call it the Sun Jacinto plan. The plan offered to buy back excess solar production at the same rate that they sell it at, the odd thing was, they called the solar part an “add-on” which meant the plan was separate from the solar agreement. I thought this was strange, but it didn't concern me until I received a couple of bills that were higher than they should have been that made me investigate. I found that this company was buying energy from my solar panels and paying me less than 3 cents per kwh! The company realized they were “losing money” on their plan (their exact words) and had to turn a profit by changing the plan in order to sell my cheap generation to the rest of you at a profit, well cheap for them, I paid almost 50k for this system with the hopes of reducing my insanely high electric bills living in Texas, but now I pay a $300 solar payment and a $200+ dollar electric bill and gift energy Texas nearly free power to sell to everyone else. This company are crooks and con artists, don't join them.
Great rates and easy auto payment set up
Very happy with this company! Great rates and rewards to boot!
Great service at a good price! I can afford to keep my home comfortable.
Never had any issues and the rewards are cool.
Very good experience with this company and they do more than just take you monthly payment. Like offer rewards for on time bill pay, monthly raffles.
Energy Texas' rates are moderate, and they have excellent energy & Customer service. Topped with the Ranker's Rewards!!! Makes it a preferred energy company to do business with :)
It's an off hand provider not familiar and had issues with transferring to another provider and did not follow through with transfer. Energy Texas still charging at time of transfer, unsure which provider DID NOT DO THEIR DUE DILIGENCE!
Energy Texas’ rates are very competitive AND they offer rewards that include bill credits or gift cards for saving electricity during high usage times.
Very happy with the service in all aspects.
We chose this company over other providers for their competitive solar buy back program. At the time they guarantee a fixed-price buyback(the same as your energy charge). 18 days after we signed up with them, they changed it. Now we get a measly .02 buy back to the .08 they sell it to us for. I called to get them to waive the cancellation fee of $500 so that I may choose another prover, because they changed the terms and conditions of their contact. They stated that they would not waive the fee, because they sent out an email explaining the changes in their buy back program. Yes they did send out 1 email that my wife and I had to search for in her email after speaking to them and found in the spam folder. I explained to them that one email telling your customers that their rates are changes, was not enough and that there was never any confirmation that we had even received the email. Energy Texas was not helpful, nor considerate of the dissatisfaction I had in there services. Unfortunately, it looks like I will be paying a $500 cancellation fee to end a relationship with a dishonest electricity provider.
Had good experience. No problems, billing fast and accurate. Automatic bill pay works fine.
Our experience with Energy Texas has been good through some uncertain energy times
Absolutely the worst electric company you could choose! Avoid at all costs! I redeemed rewards points for a gift card almost 3 weeks before the end of my 2-year contract with them and they refused to honor it because they said my account is now closed and needs to be active. Yet, after redeeming the points, the email stated I would be contacted within 1-2 weeks for my email address so they could issue the gift card. No such email was ever sent to me and now they say they can't do anything because my account is closed. Energy Texas is a bunch of unethical crooks!
Love the perks that go along with it.
I used this energy company for over a year prior to moving to my new address. Never had any issues. When it came time to move, I used the transfer my service option online. I received a confirmation email that same day. Fast forward to today, my apartment complex sends me an electric bill and a $35 fee because the service never transferred over. I called the customer service number for Energy Texas to see what the issue was and to restart my service. The customer representative was no help and told me that they are no longer accepting new service requests.
A company with IT systems from the 70s. I pay my bills online but my bank has to send them a physical check as it's the only form of payment they will accept unless you make a special visit to their web site. A payment I made in the first week of the month was posted 2 weeks later. In the meantime I get past due notices and then I received a termination notice. I made 3 calls to customer service to check on my payments. They are very pleasant but shrug their shoulders saying there is nothing they can do. All my other bill payments take one or two days to post because those vendors are in the 21st centaury.
They do not produce the “rewards program” as they state they do. Absolutely the worst customer service I’ve ever dealt with.
On my last billing cycle I redeemed a reward but it couldn't be applied. Now I've lost the stars in my account and they can't be refunded. What if I wanted to use you in the future? Not anymore!
Transitioning to Discount Power, gave customers less than a month notice so we are all cheated out of the rewards we earned and they wont apply them! Get your rewards money before time runs out or they'll keep it!
Be aware that this company does not respect contracts, they can change it to their convenience with out telling you formaly; also their cancellation policy is really expensive
Our mission is to provide accurate and helpful data and content to help you make an informed decision when comparing energy providers.
Plans and Rates:
We review all available plans from every licensed energy provider. Then we rank the lowest available rate from each provider. Providers then receive a rating based on what percentile their lowest plan ranks.
For example, Provider A has the 3rd lowest-priced plan, while Provider B has the 45th lowest-priced plan out of 46 providers who submitted plans to PUC. Provider A will have a rating of 5, while Provider B will have a rating of 1.
Customer Service:
We scrape online reviews from Google, Yelp, BBB, and Trust Pilot to determine what customers are saying about the provider. The rating reflects the aggregate of all online reviews.
Renewable Options:
The rating system is based on the availability of renewable energy options. A 5-star rating is awarded to entities that offer a fully renewable option, signifying 100% renewable energy usage. A 4-star rating is given to those that provide a mix of energy sources, with more than 50% coming from renewable sources. Entities with renewable energy options exceeding the state average of 31.1% receive a 3-star rating, while those offering less than 31.1% renewable options are rated with 2 stars. Lastly, a 1-star rating is assigned to those with no renewable energy options, indicating a lack of commitment to sustainable energy practices.
PUC Rating:
The Public Utility Commission publishes a rating for each provider based on the number of formal complaints filed against the provider in comparison to how many customers they have.
For example, a provider with 10 formal complaints out of 10,000 customers would have a 1-star rating whereas a provider with 10 complaints and 1,000,000 customers would have a 5-star rating.
The GridHacker rating uses a weighted average that prioritizes rates and customer service over renewable options and PUC rating. We do this because we feel that for most customers price and service are the two most important factors when they are shopping for an electricity plan.
